Fly-fishing Guide Gerrit Viljoen, welcomes you to the Free-state town of Parys, South Africa, situated in the world-renowned Vredefort Dome, a World Heritage site.
I operate my guided fishing trips in the Middle Vaalriver catchment below the Barrage, approximately 10km – 30km above or below the town of Parys.
I pride myself on providing a friendly and relaxed fly-fishing experience that will make your fishing trip to the Vaalriver one to remember. This means that no matter your level of skill with the fly rod, as a patient guide and tutor I can help you get the most from yourself.
I also cater for international fishermen who wish to sample the delights of fly-fishing for our indigenous Yellowfish in a world-class river.
I have a reputation for using innovative techniques and flies where I employ tactics to suit the conditions at hand as well as the clients experience levels.
My favorite discipline is streamer fishing for Largemouth Yellowfish and sight fishing to Smallmouth Yellowfish with a dry fly at every opportunity I get.
I am very proud to have guided two clients into “Largies” over 20lbs, a whopper of 24lbs & 22lbs respectively.
From March 2019 I will offer prospecting “Largemouth Yellowfish clients” the option of two clients per boat. To my knowledge we are the only guiding outfit that offer this service in Parys.
Having targeted Smallmouth Yellows for 16 years, I now share my prodigious experience with beginner and intermediate anglers.
I cater for a maximum of 3 anglers per Smallmouth Yellowfish guiding session. Please note that the three angler option is wading only, no boating!
