Most of my control flies are tied using 3.5mm tungsten beads. Although the tungsten bead gives you sufficient weight to get your flies into the feeding zone it is sometimes neccesary to incorporate lead wire into the fly for fishing deeper water and stronger river flows.

It is further recommended to experiment by using different coloured beads – some flyfishermen prefer using orange beads when tying the control fly for targeting yellowfish. Personally I prefer incorporating a hotspot instead of using a coloured bead as the coloured beads tend to last only a few sessions before peeling.
